When
they get used to you feeding them on a regular basis, they
gather together in numbers to help themselves to the treat.
This can sometimes cause minor skirmishes to break out,
and noisy 'challenges' can ensue. The weaker ones usually
just lie still for a while until the stronger ones leave,
and then they too can get their share. |
I
have tried them on various 'recommended' feeds, the most commonly
cited being tinned dog-food, or even specially tinned hedgehog-food,
but 'my' hedgehogs seem to prefer plain, shelled peanuts. If offered
a choice of peanuts and anything else, they always go for the
peanuts, leaving the alternative until there are no peanuts left,
or a shortage of natural food - like beetles and slugs.
Shaking
the peanut container after placing some in a low 'bowl' makes
the sound that is their 'dinner-gong', and they come running very
soon.
